Update

I've said it before, but this time I think the site looks how I want it to... The picture's still pretty stretchy, but I like it for this picture. It made Betty Page look like a mutant.

I'll add more to it in the future, but this should be the basic foundation.

I think the way this will work in the future is that, if you wish to read all the shorter, more bloggy stuff, come here. But, if you wish to skip the general blogginess- blog here being a contraction of Blah and Fog- go there and follow the links.

Now, how in the world do I get people to read the thing without resorting to the various and sundry forms of cyber-annoyance that we all hate?

Another Sky.

That's easy. Put some links up, and click on them from that page. People that have SiteMeter, StatCounter, etc., habitually check their stats, and when they see where you're coming from, some of them, maybe most of them, will come and check it out sooner or later.

Post a few comments here and there to make sure they're paying attention.

Hopefully, enough of them will like what they see and link you, though if it's not technically a blog, they aren't supposed to link it by way of Technorati or Blogrolling. They can still link you on a list of web-sites linkroll. Hmm, linkroll? did I just invent a new word there?

The thing is I'm trying to avoid cluttering up that main page. Also, since I'm updating totally through the HTML template, it never shows that it has been updated anyway. Believe it or not, it still shows Zero posts.

I am thinking about doing a secondary page of links, like a lot of websites do. That would require yet another Blogger site, since Blogger gives you one page.

I am also thinking about doing old-fashioned stuff like fliers and ads in the paper. I have no idea if that's ever done.

It shouldn't really be necessary to put up a blogroll or link list. You will probably be linking to sites relevant to the subject of your posts, so you can accomplish the same thing pretty much by clicking on to them from the posts.

What you can also do is have one link on the main page that just says "links", which when clicked on will take the reader to one page specifically of links, each one listed under a specific category.

Don't mess with google ads, if that's what you are talking about. Sonia Belle gets thousands of hits a month on her site, and according to her, she makes about eight dollars a month from them. Not worth the time.

If you want to sell ads, you might want to think of advertising your site on Yahoo, or something like that. I don't know how much it costs, and I guess it all depends on how much you are willing and able to put out on it.

BUT, if it gets you a lot of readers, and especially if it nets you a lot of returning readers, then you can think about the feasibility of selling ad space on your site.

You have to be willing to put a lot of time on the thing though, time you might not really have. If you can devote one whole day to it, and throw in a few extra updates through the week, then you might make it work.

I don't think anybody makes much money off of these sites. I've read that even the really popular sites tend to make less than beer money. So, I'm not worried about that. It would be good to get some more readers though. I like to hear what other people have to say.

I might do a separate page of links in the future. But, again, I'll be in France for the first half of next year, so I probably won't be updating that often anway.
